The Art of Writing Reviews

Now before you say: ’surely anyone can write a review?’ there is more to this than meets the eye.

If you, like everyone else, in the online marketing arena are hiring freelancers to write reviews about your website then you’ll have probably noticed that there is a formula to their writing style.

No? Then it is just a case that you are not looking closely enough.

Sure each survey you read tends to have a particular slant/angle to their review, but as a rule you’ll find that they’ll talk about the following:

  • Money Back Guarantee
  • Value for money – including cost of product and return on investment
  • Features
  • Benefits
  • Reputation
  • Success stories – primarily their own
  • Pros and cons
  • Favourites

Now these can appear in any order in the review and some of them will be more indepth than others, but if you were to search the web right now, you’d find all these key takes on a product.

Of course, depending on what they are exactly reviewing, you’ll find a few extras. Weight loss products for example will spend a considerable time going over the negative side effects of a product and will even introduce another product for direct comparison, whereas a course will focus on the long term benefits that be acquired by completing it.

So why am I talking about this today?

For the exact same question you posed at the beginning: the fact that anyone can write a review.

To an extent it is true. Analyse a product enough and you have got the material to write a powerful review. The only thing you  really have to remember is that whilst you have got all the material it is still imperative that you remain objective when you are writing it. You cannot go off ranting about how bad the product is. Why? Because you can be done for liable and not only will your review be removed but you could face a fine.

The key is trying to remain unbiased, to give all the pros and cons of the product and to not appear as though you are forcing an opinion. And this here is where writing a review gets hard. So if you are interested in writing reviews – either for yourself or for profit – trying reading a view first and looking at the list I mentioned about.

Good luck
